Q. I use a WYSIWYG HTML editor and no matter what I do, my pages always get messed up when they’re on the net. They look just fine when I make them and check them out on a couple of different browsers at home. What am I doing wrong? Pictures aren’t there and documents I link to don’t load right. Help!

A. WYSYIWYG editors sure make things easy. So easy in fact, they advertise that the user doesn’t need to know HTML to use one. The thing is you do have to know HTML to be an adult webmaster. You don’t have to know every possible tag but you should at least know enough so you can fix bad coding. WYSIWYG editors do crazy things with HTML code sometimes. One thing they do is link images and documents to their original location, which is usually your hard drive. Look at the actual link codes from one of your web pages. You can open your HTML page in NotePad to view it. If you see an image link tag that reads something like: CMy Documents. then you need to fix it so it points to where it’s supposed to go. Look in our HTML Language Class for tips on basic HTML tags and how they are used on a page.
