Q. Titmowse I’m so confused, what does CGI mean? Is this a type of program?

A. CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface. CGI is a standard used when information is sent from a user computer to an application residing on a web server. An example of a CGI application would be when you fill out a form on a website and then click the submit button. That form information is then sent to the CGI bin on the designated server. The CGI script in the CGI-bin folder would then process the form information and send a reply/confirmation back to your machine. CGI applications can be written in C, C++, Java and Perl.
