I suck at design. I know what I like but I also know that what I like doesn’t necessarily sell. I can build a webpage. I know HTML. I can create and manipulate images. I know how to operate most graphics software. I have the tools and the skills, but I don’t have that special, almost inherent ability to combine HTML, images and layout into a saleable page.

I would imagine that a great many of your are like me. Some of you might be even less adept than I am at site design. You’ve read all the tutorials. You’ve viewed and studied successful designs. You’ve listened to the advice and critiques of others about your page. Yet no matter how hard you’ve tried all you get is bupkiss in return. No traffic. No clicks. No money.
No problem! There’s an old adage I just made up: When you can’t do it right, pay someone else to do it right for you.
What is a template? First, it’s important to know what a template is not. A template is not a turnkey website. A turnkey website is a whole site, complete with content, a domain name, shopping cart scripts and the whole shebang. A template is a different creature.
A template is a pre-made page, be it a gallery, a full-page ad or a free site. With a template, the tables and tags and little decorations are already there. All you have to do is fill in the links, add your text, insert your images and you’re good to go!
What kinds of templates are out there? All kinds! There’s templates for TGP and MGP sites. There are paysite tour templates. There are templates for AVS pages, gallery pages, free sites, there’s even templates for whole paysites. If you can conceptualize it, then there’s probably a template out there just for you.
Another advantage to using templates is that they save you time. Even when you’re a decent designer, the amount of time invested in creating a site is consuming. You have to create all graphic buttons and logos. You have to decide which site colors work best. You have to code tables and element alignments. You have to preview your work in different browsers. On top of all that, you have to design a page so it’s pleasing to the eye as well as profitable.
When you have a template, you get to spend time on other important aspects of your business. The adult flourishing webmaster is a busy person. While self-creating a site isn’t a waste of time, it can be a hindrance to your progress. Templates can make your job that much easier.

Time is money and you can save money by using templates. It would be lovely to be able to afford the best graphics card, the best monitor and the best graphics software. However, you may not have that kind of money and you shouldn’t have to spend extra money when professional designers already have the tools needed to create marketable templates.
We’re not advising you to give up on learning the design end of this business. The more you learn about any aspect of this industry, the better webmaster you will become. However, you only have so much money and so much time. Why waste either?

A good adult webmaster knows his/her limitations. If site design isn’t your forte then relax; take a breath and hits some design sites. Follow the rules designated for use by each designer. Some offer free templates but you have to give them reciprocal link credit. Most charge fair prices for their templates but it doesn’t hurt to shop around for the best price.
