When NOT to Give Up Trying!

    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | JUL.30.2002
When my old roommate was in school to train for her Registered Nurse's license, I Iearned how hard it was to become a RN. She would tell me tales of how with each class she completed; her fellow student group would gradually diminish. The training got harder as it progressed and as my friend relayed to me: "Some of them just aren't cut out to be RNs, so they either fail or drop out". Drive and desire be damned, sometimes you just can't do what you just can't do.

"Drive and desire be damned, sometimes you just can't do what you just can't do."
Adult webmastering is a wonderful way to create your own home-based or larger business. The startup costs are far lower than a brick-and-mortar adult business. Your possible clientele reaches farther than any merchant could have imagined thirty years ago. You would be dealing in a self-selling product that is perfectly served by the Internet medium. Just the same, it requires diligent study, relentless effort and a transcendent ability to feel the pulse of your market.

If you are new to the adult Internet let me give you some words of advice:

Do NOT quit your day job. Not yet at least.

There are many that jump into this business only to jump out almost immediately. There are also those who cheat because of frustration/lack of initiative and get driven out of this field by their peers. Then there are others who try and try and try for years and never really make enough to live on. The moment of clarity they come to that signal their efforts should cease is personal to each one. I can't tell you when it's time to quit but I can tell you when not to give up:

1. If you've only been at this for a few months and you really want to do the work, read the tutorials and head the advice of your peers, don't give up. Most adult webmasters don't reach a plateau of financial safety in their first year. Some will strive and study almost that long before they see their first sale.

2. If you've been told you won't make any money without paid hosting, paid content andgeneral mega-investment bullshit and you believe you should quit, don't. Yes, those who pay for great software, excellent hosting, top-of-the-line content and all the finest amenities are probably going to make more money than you do. Just the same, there are hundreds and hundreds of adult webmasters who do swell with free hosting, sponsor content and little or no overhead costs. They don't make millions but they make their livings and lead happier lives because they are on their own.

3. If you've promoted everything you can think of in every possible way under the sun and you're still not making any money, don't give up. One of the biggest mistakes the new adult webmaster makes is to spread themselves too thinly. They jump on any program or type of porn that sounds good and push it along with a myriad of others. Pick one thing you like or take that one sponsor who made you any money or even a few clicks and concentrate your efforts on that. If a sponsor doesn't make you money, find another who will. If a type of porn is sending you any kind of business, figure out what you are doing right and do more of it.

4. If you completely hate your life or job and you thought online porn would be your savior and it's just not happening, take a breath. Desperation can cloud the mind and unrealistic expectations are poisonous. Porn is not your savior. Porn is a business. All businesses take time to become established and profitable. Online porn is not a quick financial fix. Yet with study, application and time it's possible to make a decent living either with your own site or by getting a job with a larger adult company through networking.

Granted, there will always be those who are not cut out for porn just like there are those not cut out for nursing. If you faint at the site of blood, maybe nursing isn't for you. If you have mixed feelings about the whole morality issue of porn or if you just can't get the hang of being a salesman, maybe porn isn't for you. If you find that all your efforts to create a solvent adult business make you unhappy regardless of your income, then you might consider another line of work.

On the other hand, if you have patience, an open mind, a willingness to accept criticism, a desire to work in the wacky field and are willing to bust your butt, don't give up. Read more tutorials and lessons. Ask more webmasters for advice. Examine the industry news and look at the methods of the successful professionals you admire. Before you throw up your hands and quit, make sure you've tried all avenues and relax. Online porn will wait for you.
