** Continued From: Zero Down Plan! - Part #2
Welcome to the third installment of our Zero Down article series.
This column is designed to show beginning webmasters how they can get involved in the adult Internet without losing their shirts. Any time a person enters a new field, they require a certain amount of training or apprenticeship. The adult Internet is no different. One can have years of experience in marketing or creating webpages only to find that knowledge is of no help to them in regards to online adult entertainment.

"You can't swing the clubs of the big boys without first building up some muscle. You have to start slow or you'll break something." |
Everyone knows sex sells but sex on the net sells differently than it does in print or on home video. In fact the methods of selling and delivering non adult content to surfers on the web today were probably first tried and tested on adult sites. The Internet itself is a completely new medium. It’s development is in rapid evolution and what works today may not work tomorrow. Since sexual enterprise operates out of the spotlight, how it works is only learned onsite and on the job.
The glory of online adult enterprise is the idea of shared knowledge on which the Internet is based. For the time being, adult webmasters dispense their knowledge of their business on readable, fully accessible Internet pages. They exchange with each other through tutorials, message boards, real-time chat and adult webmaster resource sites.
Some day it might not be possible to share this gold mine of information for free. Sad as it may seem; it’s entirely possible the free exchange of experience and scholarship currently voluntarily available to the masses will be restructured into a paid-only admittance. You can learn and do right now for Zero Down and we can show you how.
In the past two parts of this series, you were shown how to get hosting and content for your adult website absolutely free. This third installment will concentrate on some of the tools you will need to build your adult webpages.
To build a webpage, you will either need software to do it for you or learn HTML. Hypertext Markup Language or HTML is the code that web sites are made of. It writes specific words and characters so that they can be translated by Internet Browser software into viewable web pages. HTML is an easy language to learn but it’s tedious to type and there are many HTML editors or programs that will write it for you. Here are some HTML editors you can download and use without a fee:
You can only view the HTML code as you build your page with the editor's drop-in commands. It features a preview command that opens a web browser window so you can stop and see how your page appears on the net. It automatically knows basic codes such as adding images, applying tables and hyper links. It writes the codes in color-coded tags so you'll see errors and it comes in handy in use with the easier WYSIWYG editors, which are famous for writing bad code.
Arachnophilia has wonderful tutorials in it's Help menu and is Careware. Careware is the author's suggestion for downloaders to do something nice for someone else as payment for the program. You can download Arachnophilia at: http://www.arachnoid.com.
Microsoft Front Page Express is a Webpage editing program that comes bundled with their Internet Explorer software. It’s a WYSIWYG editor which means What You See Is What You Get. In other words, you can see what your webpage looks like as you drag and drop elements into the editor. It lets you add images, apply text and hyper links without you having to know any HTML.
If you have a computer installed with Microsoft Internet Explorer, you will probably have Front Page Express installed as well. If you don’t, you can easily acquire one of those CDs that a
certain major Internet Service provider gives away in magazines and at grocery stores. Open the disk in your File Manager and find the installation program for Microsoft Internet Explorer. In the set-up process, the software usually asks you if you want to add Front Page Express. Click yes.

Netscape Communicator is that other browser software. It also comes bundled with Netscape’s browser software Netscape Communicator and is a WYSIWYG editor. If you build sites you will want as many surfers as possible to be able to view your webpage with the browser they use. The majority of surfers use Internet Explorer but enough use Netscape for it to have a marked effect on the size of your audience.
Netscape and Microsoft are famous for their adversarial relationship and their browsers show it. Pages that look good in Explorer look lousy in avigator and vice versa. You don’t have to look as hard in Netscape for Composer as it comes standard and should not be removed. If you need to download Netscape Communicator you can get it at ZDNET’s download page: http://www.hotfiles.com.
There several other fine HTML editors that work as well if not better than the ones mentioned above. The programs written about are in this article because they are easily procured and absolutely free.
You can build HTML documents with a simple text editor like Note Pad that comes bundled into the accessories menu on all Windows machines since the 95 version. HTML is based on the written word enhanced by typeface characters such as brackets and quotation marks that are divided into elements called tags. Most programs are basically written as if they were text files but saved with different extensions that make them execute in certain ways.
HTML is just a text file saved as .htm or .html instead of .doc or .txt. If you know HTML, you’re in great shape. If you don’t, you will learn as you go because you’ll have to. You can’t have an adult website without building the pages and there’s no reason to pay for an editor when you have one within button-clicking reach.
A stated, there are many other software programs that build web pages. Some are vastly elaborate and can handle whole networks of sites. Some are easier to use than others and some are very expensive. Before you go and throw money down on what other adult webmasters tell you is the definitive HTML editor, try playing around with the ones that are free.
The Cozy Zero Down series isn’t about wielding the tools of the online Porn Gods. You can’t swing the clubs of the big boys without first building up some muscle. You have to start slow or you’ll break something. When there are so many pieces of training equipment and rulebooks available to you at no cost, why pay money for stuff you probably can’t use yet?
Look for the next article in this Zero Down Plan series as we continue to guide you through a no-cost way to explore and master the adult Internet entertainment business.
