    Too Much or Not Enough?

    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | JUN.11.2002
It's so confusing. They tell you to stick with something, then they tell you to build as many sites as you can. They tell you promote your page with galleries, but then others tell you to make galleries only. Adult webmasters are a confounding lot. If a poor newbie asks the basic question: "How do I get started?" he's inundated with a flood of suggestions, all of them different.

"You should never limit yourself to just one site. One site has a limited amount of appeal."
Not to say you shouldn't listen to the advice and war stories of those who've forged the road ahead of you. Just keep in mind their knowledge comes from their experiences and trials. What worked for them may not necessarily work for you. There are specifically tried and true methods to achieving adult Internet success but those methods vary depending on a multitude of factors.

The question of the day is: Should you build tons of small websites or should you concentrate on one or two big sites?

To answer this you should probably know the difference between a site and a page.

A webpage is simply that, one single page of HTML code. Everything that is on the page can be seen in the same window, either at once or by the user scrolling down to the bottom. The builder can add special links that will take user to various parts of the page, but a single page is always one page in one window.

A site is more than one webpage. If a user clicks on a link to say an image or story, they are taken to another page with another name on the same domain.

A small site should have more than one page, preferably three or four or more. You can compose four or five pages and you have a site. If you have a good template or pre-made layout, building many small sites can be quite easy. What the adult webmaster needs to know is if many small sites is a worthwhile effort.

There are advantages to building many small sites. Search engines usually do not list individual pages, especially adult ones. You have a better chance of acquiring search engine traffic from a small site and the more small sites you have listed, the more of such traffic you'll get.

You can also make it so each of these little sites link to each other. That way you insure the surfer stays within your realm and you can still sell to them.

Bunches of little sites spread you over the Internet. They improve your chances of being seen because you have more entries. The more places where surfers can find you, the more you get a chance to make your pitch.

The problem is a small site hasn't much to offer the surfer. They can see all your content in one visit. You may attract them once to your small page but they are unlikely to return. Most web customers rarely spend money on the first visit to a page. Return business is vital on the adult Internet and this is the advantage to a large site.

Large sites have many pages within its domain. Large sites are updated on a regular basis. Large sites consist of more than a front page and a couple of galleries.

Large sites are more likely to be added to a surfer's bookmarks. Large sites are more favored by search engines and other adult sites for link trades.

A few large or many small is a question only you can answer. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. Keeping up with traffic statistics and passwords for many small sites is an awesome task. Running out of storage space or the likelihood that your site could suddenly go off-line are some of the headaches you face with a large site.

The one thing that must be made clear is that you should never limit yourself to just one site. One site has a limited amount of appeal. One site limits your chances of reaching multitudinous surfers. If they don't find your one site, they don't find you at all. If they do find you but your site is down, they'll never return.

When you begin your efforts in this world of adult Internet entertainment keep in mind, you will want to make more than just one site. How many you make is your choice.
