    Industry Magazines: Long Live Print!

    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | SEP.01.2006
I love the print medium. I have ever since I was a little girl. It's my father's fault. He used a little technique called denial. He wasn't cruel. Neither of my parents forbade me to read. They wanted me to read. They expected me to read. Reading in our house was a given. My father was a newspaper reporter. This is where the denial came in.

The reading of the Sunday paper was a family ritual. The first rule of Sunday Newspaper Club? Nobody touches a page unless Daddy's read it first. The only exception was the obligatory removal of the Living section that he would hand to my mother. My three siblings and I would gather around my father like hungry dogs, just waiting for Dad to throw down a section. When Dad let a one drop, the fastest child snatched it. The wait was sweet agony because my Father read every damned word.

"If you haven't read an adult webmaster magazine, there's no better time to start. A few years ago, there was only one industry-oriented publication. Now you have a choice."
To this day, I can't let a newspaper or magazine go unread. I am compelled to open these publications and I won't put one down until I have skimmed every page. If a magazine is exceptionally good, I will savor it for days. I've got the newspaper snap down to a cool art. You won't find me struggling with a newspaper that bends in half so one can't turn the pages properly. I give it a snap and voila!

I love the feel of a magazine or newspaper in my hands. I don't mind having my fingers blackened by newsprint. When I've finished every article in a magazine, I'll proceed to read every ad in the back. I'll critique headlines. I'll laugh at typos. I even read Mastheads! Don't get me started on books. Let's just say I'm anal about books.

Did you know that the adult Internet industry publishes magazines just for adult webmasters? I'm not talking porn mags here. I mean genuine magazines, printed on glossy paper. Real magazines with real articles from some of the best names in the business. Granted, these magazines do contain dirty pictures but those are the ads. Ironically, 99% of the content in our trade magazines is porn and erotica free.

When was the last time you read an adult Internet magazine? Did you read it only because your name or picture appeared on one of its pages? There's nothing wrong with that. We all like seeing our names and faces in print. I know I do. But if vanity is the only reason you've opened an adult Internet magazine, then give yourself a little smack to the face because you're missing out on some of the best information and opinion we have.

I don't know about you but I get more out of a printed article that I do a digital one. If an article is particularly useful or enlightening I save that magazine. When I read a piece by an industry leader or expert, I give silent thanks. I bow before my slick-paper alter and whisper a prayer to these webmasters, lawyers, paysite owners, graphic artists, content providers and programmers who have blessed my eyes with words that speak to me. I dig a clever online article but a printed one enraptures me.

If you haven't read an adult webmaster magazine, there's no better time to start. A few years ago, there was only one industry-oriented publication. Now you have a choice. Heck, you don't even have to choose. Read all of them. Subscribe to them. Have them delivered to your home or office or post office box. If you're worried about the cover, don't be. They all come in those nice wrappers. Let the neighbors think you're a girly magazine subscriber.

Most importantly, read them. You'll be delighted at the information and insights. You'll appreciate articles that go deeper than is possible on a space-hungry webpage. You'll recognize the faces and names of your peers in the pages. Every word, every picture, every ad will have a bigger impact on you.

Here's a list of links to subscribe to adult Internet magazines. Some are free. Some cost money. All of them are for adult webmasters:

I love print. It breaks my heart that it's considered a dying medium. I don't believe print will die completely. Magazines of the future will cater to smaller niches. Our industry is one of those niches. Long live print! Long live adult webmasters! Long live adult webmaster magazines!
