What Every Newbie Should Know!
Whenever I meet someone new at an adult webmaster convention or local gathering, I can't help but try and pull them aside and try and help them in any way that I can. I've learned that I don't need to waste my time or theirs trying to explain HTML or Java to these new folks, as most of them know the stuff better than I do. The alarming fact of the matter is though that I find they've been exposed to a whole heap load of crap in most situations.

The one thing I can touch on in most situations with new folks is to caution them on their dealings with self-proclaimed "big shots" (or big shits in most cases). It's frightening to hear some of the stuff that I've heard that these "big shots" are telling the unsuspecting and sometimes all-to-trusting newbie.
First off, all newcomers to the adult web industry MUST understand that there is no overnight success, no magic pill, and no amount of voodoo that will make you a millionaire. There are rules to play by it seems, rules imposed on us "small folks", all of which have been created by the authentic big shots. These rules are intended to keep the big shots big and you, the webmaster, in your place, which is so far from competing with them that it's staggering.

Where I find trouble most often is the phonies out there that thrive on molesting the new webmasters with boatloads of udder crap. You know the ones."You should sign up with us for this", or "You really need what we have to offer". Ummm.sorry! But no.you don't.
Sponsorship programs with established mega sites are about as trust worthy as you can get. Beware of the offers from those that tout them to be "One in a million" or "The sure thing". Nothing is guaranteed in this business. It's the hard work and selfless dedication from you, the webmaster, that achieves whatever measure of success you're striving for.
One thing I always tell newbies is that they should trust their instincts, NOT promises. Always ask when in doubt and never put yourself in a position where you could make an uninformed decision.
By networking with more experienced and established webmasters, you can become much more informed.faster and more accurately. Webmaster message boards and chats are the quickest way to find out what you need to know about anything. Many of the webmaster resource sites have message boards so take advantage of them! (ex. CozyCampus.com)
Something else to keep in mind also is to have a back up plan just in case something backfires on you. All to often, newbies will put all their eggs in one basket only to be up shits creek without a paddle when things go sour. Have your back up plans ready and waiting so that they can be launched with little or no effect from whatever fallout may come.
If there's one thing a newbie should know, it's whom they're dealing with. Yes, you'll come across some VERY big egos and some downright idiotic people.
One thing's for sure is you'll have to learn to deal with all types of personalities. There are many schemes and people with no morals whatsoever out there. But there are even more people out there that can help you. You've heard the old saying, "Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer"? Only half true in this business. Keep your friends close yes.but keep the "enemas" as far away from you as possible.
