Imagine that your job is to perform tedious and repetitive tasks all day, without pay. Imagine that you are responsible for your employment taxes and insurance fees. Imagine that you’ll have to supply your workstation, network connection and software. You will pay all utilities. You will be financially accountable for domain, hosting and content. You are the boss; the employee and the specialist wrapped into one. This is your future for as long as you intend to be an adult webmaster. No matter who you are or how successful you become, you’ll pass through a trial of monotony and expense before you reach any sort of finish line.

I’ve written before about "THE FORMULA". There is a FORMULA. It’s very simple:
1. Put Porn on Web.
2. Get Traffic.
3. Make Money.
There you have it. That’s the formula. Do I really have to explain why the formula isn’t any kind of answer to the question? Do I need to insult your intelligence by explaining that the hard part is how you perform the equation?
Obviously you realize that you can’t just slap up any old porn on a page. You need to determine what kind of porn you want to promote. You have to decide if you want to promote someone else’s porn (affiliate/sponsor program) or if you intend to promote your own paysite. You need to locate or create content, hosting, design and theme for your site. The site you create defines your success. You’ll need to build a page that is easy to navigate, visually stimulating and one that ultimately convinces surfers to pay money. Before you do anything else, the page comes first.
Untitled Page
Then comes the traffic. During the process of building your site, you’ll have taken the time to optimize it for search engines. You will have made sure that your domain name conveys the content and design of your page. Then you will submit it to search engines and adult top lists. If you build galleries you will now submit those to TGPs and MGPs. You will look for hard link trades with other sites. You will implement trade scripts. You might even buy traffic and shell out cash for advertising on prominent websites and portals. You’ll check your page rankings on Google as well as on Alexa. You’ll post on message boards that have Traffic forums. You’ll work to get your site as much traffic as you possibly can.
After that comes the real test. Granted, profit in this business depends on massive amounts of traffic but what if your page gets a thousand or ten thousand hits a day without any sales? Guess what you do? You go back to the beginning and start over with your design, your content and even your domain.
You have to ask yourself what is it about your site that isn’t working? Is it your design? Could it be your content? How about your domain name? Maybe it’s a combination of all three. Could be you’re giving away too much free content. Perhaps your site copy is confusing. How about that silly JavaScript cursor? Is it really necessary? How about your sponsor? Did you pick one that works for you? Whatever the reasons, back to the drawing board you go.
Garnering sales is a process with a steep learning curve. Oh sure. You like your site colors and you think your new webpage is awesome. But what you think doesn’t matter. Your surfers are what matters.
Look at your server logs. Where are your surfers coming from? How long do they stay on your site? How many pages and images do they download? Are you losing them at the Warning page? Do you have bunch of freeloaders? Are you getting the majority of traffic from countries where the people don’t use credit cards? How about bot hits? Have you uploaded an .htaccess file to block useless visitors? Have you checked to see if a good bit of your traffic is coming from someone else hotlinking your images?
These are the actions of a successful adult webmaster. These are the steps you must take over and over and over again. At some point, one either gets it or gives up. Some webmasters figure it out in six months. Some take years. The fact remains that the formula is simple. It’s the application that’s hard. Trial and error. Working and reworking. Trying on sponsors as if they were shirts. Endless stat-checking and SEO optimizing.
The prosperous adult webmaster is tenacious and driven. There is only one, true solution and that is persistence it pays off!
