porn addiction. Let me save you thousands of dollars and months of psychological counseling. You can stop being a porn addict with four simple words:

So you’re a porn fan. Well, goody for you. You’ve downloaded more porn than any other pervert on your block and you think that makes you some kind of expert? Do you honestly believe that being a super consumer somehow qualifies you to make a living selling the stuff on the web?
That’s like saying that because you eat a lot, you can be a successful restaurateur. It’s like someone who drives a lot thinking they can win NASCAR. It’s as ridiculous as assuming that an ability to spend obscene amounts of money means you can open a bank.
The fact of the matter is that most of us involved in this industry liked porn before we tried to make our livings from it. I know I did. I too, spent hours and hours downloading image after image of dirty sex.
I also realized that there was money to be made. Believe me. I’ve been exactly where you are. I was so sure it would all be cake. I knew what I liked. I knew how to build webpages. I knew how to sell. I was positive that all I had to do was put some porn on a page, slap up a few sponsor banners and I would be rolling in dough.
I was wrong. Very wrong. Selling online porn is hard as hell and the truth is, I very rarely look at it for enjoyment anymore. Now, when I see a porn page, all I can think of is:

I’m not telling you that becoming an adult webmaster will turn you into some ice-cold puritan. What I’m trying to tell you is that "loving porn" is simply not a skill. Yes, it’s important to have an open mind and an appreciation for the medium. People that hate porn should most definitely not be involved in the smut business. The fact remains that shelling out money for a couple of paysites isn’t going to make you the next Hugh Hefner or Larry Flynt. Hell, even Playboy and Hustler had to rethink their strategies when it came to the Internet.
You have gigs and gigs of dirty pictures on your hard drive. Guess what? So do I. The difference between my gigs and your gigs is that I have licenses for my images. You snagged yours off of Usenet, message boards, TGP galleries, free sites and paysites. I have permission to use my pictures to sell porn. You have a bunch of pictures that you will never be able to use. You’ve bookmarked all the hot top lists and free sites on the web. So have I. However, I go to those sites to submit my work. You go there to jerk off. I know that Shemp and Persian Kitty are stars in our business because they got into the game early. You think all you have to do is copy them and you’re on your way to riches. Shemp has told me himself that if he started out new today, he wouldn’t get very far.
What you must understand is that there is no guarantee of success in this industry. If you want to make it, you’re going to have to work your butt off and you’re going to have to learn skills that are unique
to our business. You won’t just have to make a page that looks good; you’ll have to create a design that sells. You won’t just have to acquire traffic; you’ll have to acquire hundreds of thousands of
surfers a week. You won’t just pick any sponsor. You’ll have to try on sponsors like they were shoes. You’ll build pages and rebuild them over and over until you find the right layout and niche. What’s worse,
you’ll have to keep building new pages and new galleries. You’ll never be able to let your sites work for you. You will always be working for your sites.
Maybe it’s real, this porn addiction thing. Maybe you are a victim. If you are, then perhaps you shouldn’t be an adult webmaster. Then again, being one might cure you. I can tell you first hand I don’t look at
porn for fun anymore. When I spend money on dirty pictures, I do so with the intent of making money. As I already wrote, "loving porn" is not a skill. Being a prosperous adult webmaster there’s a skill you
can take to the bank!
