    Breaking Down the Ethnic Niche!

    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | JUL.08.2005
As a female, I always feel a slight sting whenever I hear the phrase "women and minorities". First off, it's a contradiction in terms. Women are not a minority. We are half of the whole human population. Some reports state that we're more than half. We're actually the majority.

"This is a beautiful multi-colored, multi-cultural world. Adult webmasters should celebrate the cornucopia of tastes that feed our bank accounts."
That brings me to my second problem with that stupid phrase. Why is it that a majority of the populace keeps getting lumped in with minorities? There are more women in this world than there are men. Some day we gals need to do something about that.

Then comes the third flaw. The reference to "minorities" is strictly a result of the arrogance of white Americans. Oh sure, there's more whites in the US than there are other ethnic groups but that isn't going to last. Studies say that Hispanics will match whites in number -in the US- within fifty years. I won't even mention white America's blindness to the rest of the planet. China is closing in on two billion and India contains over one billion people. Whites are by no means the majority on the Earth.

Maybe at one time it was feasible to ignore the goings on outside US borders but with the advent of the Internet; the concept of borders is less and less viable. The web makes us all citizens of the world and there's no better example of that than the adult Internet.

The adult web has shattered practically every manufactured notion of what is and what is not sexy. Before the net, conventional wisdom told us that pretty, youthful blondes were everyone's ideal. Now we know better and we have profitable niches like Amateurs and MILFs to prove it. What's more, we have learned that there are no ethnic boundaries when it comes to lust. Visit almost any TGP or link lists and you will find an ethic category.

Therein lies yet another misconception that is reminiscent of that whole "women and minorities" thing: the word "ethnic".

What a fucking insult. Ethnic? As opposed to what? Are we trying to say that all porn surfers are white? Are we so afraid of political correctness that we can't ascribe to a model by culture? I mean come on. We call our models whore and sluts but we're afraid of referring to them by race and/or ethnicity?

They days of blanket categories are over. This is the information age and applying a term like "ethic" to models that aren't white is just plain misinformed. This is a beautiful multi-colored, multi-cultural world. Adult webmasters should celebrate the cornucopia of tastes that feed our bank accounts.

Some surfers like Ebony models. Some like Oriental smut. Others can't get enough of Latino porn. And yes, some want their pornographic ideal to be Caucasian.

The point is, if you're going to market a niche, do it right.

For example, take a look at that damned PC term: Asian. Now, take out a map and look at the continent of Asia. China. Russia. Iran. Japan. India. Notice anything a little off with the ridiculous belief in calling a Taiwanese person an Asian? Afghanis and Swedes are Asians too.

Hell, even I am guilty of PC madness by using the descriptor Latino. Do I honestly think there's no difference between a model from Mexico and a model from Cuba? What about the term Hispanic? It's perfectly fine for someone from Spain but someone from Portugal is going to have problem with being called Hispanic.

I supposed this fear of insulting people is one reason why we resort to silly, meaningless words like ethnic. The world is too diverse for simple terminology. I'm an American but I refer to myself as a Texan. I may be white but I am a woman. I may live in a Republican state but I'm a proud Democrat.

If you're going to market an ethnic niche, make sure you know that market. Take the time to understand the Brazilian fondness for a fine ass. Make an effort to discern Japanese from Chinese or Laotian. If a model has brown skin and a bindi then she's probably Hindu and it would be a travesty to define her as Arabic. Do some research. Look at maps. Read up on cultures before you start lumping human beings into groups.
