A year begins at different times for different people. For some, the year starts on the anniversary of their birthday. For others it begins with the astrological sign Aries. Nations celebrate the new years of their cultural calendars.

Naturally, we all recognize the Gregorian calendar as the official denominator for the passage of time. In the past, many cultures and societies created calendars. The human race has proven a need to delineate the days and seasons into neat patterns. In business we call the end of a twelve-month period a fiscal year.
Your fiscal year end probably coincides with the Gregorian calendar year but it doesn’t have to. Your fiscal year might end twelve months after you first open your business. You could choose to close your fiscal year on a month when sales slow down for you. Governments of the world select various fiscal periods depending on the needs of their populace. In the US, a contract employee can divide their fiscal year into quarters and pay necessary taxes throughout the year in smaller increments than one lump sum.
Do you consider these things when the year comes to an end? Do you think about such things during the year? Do you take into account that your partners; associates and sponsors may not recognize the same fiscal year period as you do? Do you get paid by sponsors or customers who reside in countries with tax laws and fiscal terms unlike yours? Are you bugging your major sponsor just when they’re gearing up for the big end of their fiscal year? Has one of your best customers suddenly gone late on a payment and you’re not sure why?

Here in the US, most adult webmasters are tallying up their annual income from this year’s work. Most of us declare ourselves as contract employees on our income taxes. Most adult webmasters in the US are self-employed and making their living promoting other people’s programs. There are of course larger adult ventures spattered around here and there but for the most part, US adult webmasters work on their own selling for someone else. This means that most of us are adding up how much we made and who paid us. We’ll be determining how much we owe in taxes and what costs we incurred in our last twelve months of business. This month is our last chance to bring our numbers up before the year is over.
Next month we’ll be bitching and moaning because we owe so damned much and most of us will have blown all our spare money on holiday presents for our family and friends. We’ll pray that all the college buds will want porn when they’re snowbound and back from break.
Come February, we’ll get a little nervous because it’s the last winter month and annotates then beginning of the end of the cold and horny housebound season. In March we’ll be gazing out our windows thinking thoughts of fresh air and spring. By April we’ll be complete bitches because we’ve put off our taxes until the last minute deadline and we’ll moan and bitch even more at our sponsors, surfers and fucking taxes in general.
US adult webmasters are in a mix of giddy and ghastly this time of year. If we’re doing well, we’re showering our loved ones and prized associates with presents and bonuses. If we’re doing poorly, we’re in a desperate race to scrape up traffic and sales because this month is our last chance for our personal fiscal year. If you’ve noticed a contrary mix of sour and sweet from the Americans this month, now you know one reason why.
Enjoy this month. It’s a season of giving and goodwill. It’s that magic few weeks where the year’s not over yet, lights twinkle on the streets and in the windows of the homes that line our streets. It’s a the season of surprise gifts and greeting cards from friends. It’s a rush of feasts and fests and sign-ups rolling in. It’s also a month of hot tempers and frantic pleas for business. There will be high drama on the boards and shameless begging in private messages. It’s the end of the fiscal year for a lot of us.
We might not be predictable but we’ll definitely be entertaining! Happy December everyone!
