Something that a lot of webmasters struggle with is whether or not to bother with TGP traffic or not. This is a decision I will leave up to you, of course, but if you decide to give it a try, I'm going to give you some tips to make the most of your TGP experience.

"Use creative advertising. Don't just throw up a banner and expect to make a fortune." |
First of all let me explain TGP's a little more for those who are rather new at this. Thumbnail gallery posts are link lists that do not link to your site's main page, instead they link directly to your galleries of pictures. They can send you MASSIVE amounts of traffic but they can also cost you a TON of money in bandwidth! I'm going to give you some advice on using this method to gain traffic that will make you money and not cost you a fortune!
Something else to take note of, when posting to TGP's I highly recommend that you use a free host. There are many free hosts out there, but few GOOD ones, so it REALLY pays to look around. The main things you NEED to look for in a free host is fast loading pages, no popup ads, no blind links (links that trick the surfer into thinking they're going to a place they're not), and banners that are not so big they take up more than 1/3 of the top and bottom of a page without scrolling.
Many free hosts are banned by TGP's and the only way to really tell if your free host is banned at a particular place is by looking on that TGP's list of galleries and seeing if you see any sites on that free host listed. If not, it doesn't mean they are banned, but if so, you can probably safely submit your site there. Most TGP's also have a list of banned free hosts. TGP's usually ban free hosts for redirecting traffic, opening popup windows or having huge or misleading advertising.
If you want to use a paid host, I have some recommendations to keep your bandwidth costs as low as possible. This is totally up to you and I do not recommend it. I know people who have happily posted away to every high traffic TGP they would find every day for an entire month and ended up getting a bandwidth bill for $3000 or more! Needless to say most of them did NOT make enough money to pay their bandwidth bills and they lost their hosting.
If you insist on using paid hosting you must keep your file sizes as low as possible. Use an image optimization program to cut your file size down below 30k, and 20k is better. Just don't compress your pictures so much that your quality looks terrible!
TGP's usually only list sites with nice quality pictures. This keeps their surfers happy and they come back regularly. Keep thumbnails under 2k each, 1k is much better, and keep them at 100 pixels on the longest side at most. Your main pictures should be at least 400 pixels on the longest side, and some TGP's require 500 pixels. Also, try to use creative text links instead of banners! A whole page of text can be much smaller in file size than ONE banner! Besides, text links are usually more effective with TGP traffic than banners anyway.
I recommend SuperJPG for image optimization. It is available from places like Download.com and you get 30 days free to use it. If you want to use it beyond the trial it only costs $29 for lifetime use! And it works very well. It has taken 300k pictures down to 30k for me with almost no noticeable quality loss. And it does batch processes, meaning you can resize and compress hundreds of images at once if you want! There are other good image compression programs out there, too, just look around.

Okay, now on to the good stuff. First of all, I want to recommend that you not make a plain old ordinary thumbnail gallery, put two banners on it and submit it.
NO, NO, NO!
You need to add some jazz to your gallery! Add in some color! Make your gallery table a spicy color like red or hot pink! Make your thumbnail gallery into odd shapes like checkerboards, pyramids or hourglasses! Add a simple background image to your gallery page, maybe a pale yellow paper texture. Don't use anything too colorful or loud to the background, though, or you'll distract and possibly annoy your visitors! Try different colored background colors and table colors.
Try using other colors for your links besides the normal blue links. One color combination that I love is a black background with a maroon table, white text and yellow links. Try others! Try a deep blue background with a dark purple table, pale pink text and powder blue links. You'll find other combinations that look good together, the main things is to make sure your gallery doesn't look like every other gallery on the TGP's!
Use creative advertising. Don't just throw up a banner and expect to make a fortune. I like putting text inside tables. I usually use 3 lines of text, each line a different font size and color, with one line linked to the sponsor. DO NOT be tempted to fall into the trap of putting too much text! Surfers come to your site to get off, not to read a novel about how great your sponsor is. Also, you might want to add in an extra line that lets surfers know that the site is a paysite. If they know before they go, they are more likely to sign up and this will improve your signup ratios. Surfers don't like to feel tricked. Here is an example:
Make up your own text, use your own colors, etc. This is just so you can see how effective this method can be! It's attractive, grabs the attention, demands immediate action, and prepares them for the fact that they have to pay for membership. All good ideas when working with TGP traffic.
You may decide that TGP traffic is not working for you because you are not making enough signups from it, but you can use this to your advantage. You can take some of that massive, unproductive TGP traffic and RECYCLE it into traffic that you can make money with. How? Hehe, I thought you'd never ask! It's really easy. Banner exchange traffic and toplist traffic converts better for most people than TGP traffic.
You can join a banner exchange or a top list and put your code for these programs at the bottom of your gallery. You can advertise your sponsor at the top of the page, or in the middle of the gallery, and then put a banner exchange banner at the bottom. This will earn you impressions that will allow your banner to be shows on other sites and draw traffic to your main page. Or you can put a link at the bottom that is linked to your toplist code that says something like, "Want more FREE porn like this? CLICK HERE!" This will earn you a higher spot on the toplist and get you more traffic to your main page. Hopefully this traffic will convert much better for you!
TGP traffic does not have to be worthless. It is a good way to get a lot of traffic relatively fast, and if you use these tips as a starting point, with some patience and practice you can learn to make money using this traffic.
In fact, many webmasters are making $200 a day or more using TGP traffic alone! Some make more than $1000 a day from it! You may never learn to make that much, but then again you may make more! Use a free host, give it a try for a few days, post a few galleries, see what works and what doesn't, and maybe you'll learn your own formula for TGP success!
