Let me guess. You're sitting on your ass, in a badly lit room, staring at a glowing monitor. You've haven't gone out of your house, much less gotten any exercise in days. Your last meal was a bag of chips and a bottle of soda. You're tired more often than not and when you do sleep, you toss and turn and wake up feeling like you've been hit over the head with a rock. Your skin color is off. Your get headaches.

"This is not good. Nobody gives out medals to people who let their bodies go to shit because they're 'too busy'. All that mogul money you're making won't do you a bit of good if you're too incapacitated to spend it." |
You're squinting at your screen. Your back is aching no matter what position you're in. When you get up to pee, your joints pop and crack so loud the dog can hear it. In fact, now that you think about it, the dog is starting to look worried.
Congratulations. You're an adult webmaster. Out of shape, out of breath and out of your mind. You've gotten so into your work, you've allowed your health to suffer. This is not good. Nobody gives out medals to people who let their bodies go to shit because they're "too busy". All that mogul money you're making won't do you a bit of good if you're too incapacitated to spend it. Maybe you haven't noticed because these kinds of things sneak up on you but ever since you went all geek on yourself, you're thinking slower, working less and basically screwing up your good thing.
There is a direct correlation between health and productivity. When your body is turning to funk, your work suffers. It's harder to think clearly and maintain momentum when you fill your body with junk food, deprive your system of fresh air and allow your muscles to atrophy. The worst part is that if you keep it up, you're going to do yourself long-term harm. Skinny or fat, male or female, you can't be a sedentary, Dorito-eating chair lump and expect to come out of it unscathed. Install all the ionic air filters and light boxes you want, nothing is going to take the place of fresh air, sunshine, exercise and wholesome food.

Getting healthy isn't as hard as you fear. Nobody is asking you to turn into a gym junkie or adopt a macrobiotic diet. Naturally, the first thing you should do is pay a visit to your doctor and get a checkup. Hopefully, he/she will tell you that you're in the peak of health. Even so, your MD will still suggest diet and lifestyle routines to improve your physical well-being. If your doc uses terms like "high blood pressure", "diminished lung capacity", "high cholesterol" or other such scary stuff, then you'll get a serious talking to and probably a prescription. Listen to your doctor. They don't kid around.
When you get home, turn right around and head to the grocery store. Pass by the chips and soda isle and head over to that place where all the green, yellow and red things are. Fruits. Vegetables. Eat them. Incorporate them into your diet as snacks and as part of prepared meals. Ignore the frozen food section completely unless you plan to buy frozen vegetables - which are almost as good for you as fresh. No frozen pizza. No ice cream. No taquitos. It's time for you make simple meals from scratch. When it comes to meat, go lean. Go fish. Go chicken breast. Don't get too starchy but if you need extra filler, try a nice rice dish or a fresh, baked potato with all the fatty extras. If you need something sweet, try grapes. If you're thirsty, drink water.
After you eat, don't ruin that healthy meal by vegging out in front of the teevee or your comp. Take a nice, leisurely walk around the block. Suck in the clean air. Tighten your pelvis as you explore your neighborhood, this helps you breath better and strengthens your back. If you want to run or work out more strenuously, take it slow. 30 minutes, at least three times a week is ample exercise for burning fat and keeping tone. Just the same, still make that effort to get outside. You need the Vitamin D and the oxygen.
If you turn this around and get healthier, you're going to discover that your mind is clearer and your energy levels are higher. You'll work more productively and in return, make money. A healthy body equals a healthy business. Guaranteed.
