It's only words
And words are all I have
To take your heart away

Life is full of interesting paradoxes and some of the most interesting seem to only occur on the Internet. Here we have the most visual medium on the planet, images flood our monitor screens and we can even get them to dance before our eyes. Images are worth a thousand words and yet most people in the adult online industry know that images don't sell. Surfers seem to be immune to banners regardless of their size.

The paradox is that in this most visual of mediums it is text that sells. Webmasters have always focused on words for important things such as search engine placement but until recently many did not give a thought to adding text to their advertising toolkit. Even now many simply rely on suggestive text wrapped around a banner in the hope that it will increase the surfer's desire to click through to the sponsor.
I want to suggest to you that keywords are not the only important words that webmasters should be focusing on. Certainly choosing good keywords is important for search engine placement and a steady flow of high quality traffic but once you have the surfer at your site you want to make the maximum effort to get him to move on to your sponsor and buy a membership. For that you don't just need suggestive text, you need power words as well.
The concept of power words is nothing new; it has been around in the advertising industry for years but for some reason it has never really caught on here in the adult marketing industry. In these tough times you need to use every ethical method at your disposal to make a sale so perhaps its time to learn about power words. The basic idea is that there are certain words in our language that human beings are conditioned to respond to. These are words that attract our attention, encourage us to take some action, instil confidence in us, make us feel comfortable and convince the surfer to buy what we are selling.
Power words are emotive words and the vast majority of surfers who come to our sites are surfing with their emotions wide open. They want satisfaction and if we tap into those emotions we have a far greater chance of making a sale than we do if we just use some suggestive text. Suggestive text may look and sound really cool to a webmaster during site construction but it won't have the same effect on a surfer as a carefully crafted text link that incorporates emotive power words.
What are these simple groupings of vowels and consonants that will turn a bored surfer into a rampaging, credit card wielding purchaser of porn?
Here are three sources that you can find on the net:

Of course how you actually present these words is also important. Times New Roman and font size 2 in blue on a black background is really not going to cut it for you. Nor is the same font in size 3, yellow, wrapped around a banner going to do great things either.
If you're going to be bold and innovative and seize the guaranteed and easy results with this powerful new tool that you have at your disposal (sorry I just couldn't resist the fantastic opportunities to use such exciting and unsurpassed words) then why not take the next step and ditch banners all together.
That's right, why not try a site with no banners at all. Think of some of the advantages of using text over banners; banners take time to load so if you put a banner on your warning page the chances are the surfer has gone right past it to your enter link before the banner has loaded. A text ad will load instantly and be in the surfer's face before he has had a chance to move on.
A prime advertising spot is at the top of your page but that is also prime realty for search engines too so with a few seconds thought you could weave your keywords in with your text ad to get the best of both worlds and so on.
Think of how you are going to present those text ads too. Personally I wouldn't waste my time with anything less than Verdana, size 4, bold. Nor would I restrict myself to just one color for the entire link. If you are going to use 3 lines of linked text consider using a different color for each line so that the ad stands out and gets into the surfer's face. At the same time don't out-smart yourself. Surfers expect links to be underlined so make sure you keep your multi-hued text links underlined or the surfer may not see them as links at all.
Don't restrict your use of power words to just the text links on your page. Think about using them in the site title and the site description and definitely weave them into the unlinked text in the body of the page. The unlinked text is there normally to attract the search engine spiders and warm up the surfer but if you weave in a few power words as well you can also encourage the surfer to relax and feel comfortable with your site and what you advertise on your site.
I won't resort to using anymore power words as I conclude but every adult webmaster should be open to anything that is ethical and can help him make money. Feel free to dismiss what I've said here as rubbish but mainstream advertising has been using these words for years and its about time we tried a few of them ourselves.
