    Almost All About Sponsors

    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | MAY.01.2002
In 1862, the American Congress passed the Homestead Act. It's passing meant that any household head to could obtain the title to 160 acres of public land if he or she lived on the land for five years and improved it. The settler could also obtain title by paying $1.25 per acre if he or she had lived on the land for at least six months and made improvements on it. Americans were given free land and what they did with it determined whether they got to keep it.

The Adult Internet is a little like the Homestead Act. At this time, a person can get their land in the form of webspace, absolutely free. As long as that person plays by the rules of their host, what they do with that land/bandwidth is entirely up to them. The perfect cherry on this free space is there are also multitudinous opportunities to generate income from your free site that cost you utterly nothing. If you were a merchant in the physical world, what you would be getting is a rent-free store with shelves full of cost-free stock. The best part of all is, Adult entertainment is (disputably) the most dependable profit model in Internet commerce.

Not to say that if you have paid for a domain and hosting and content, you cannot take advantage of the income opportunity that affiliation with an Adult sponsor offers. Quite the opposite is true. Incorporating outside sales opportunities to your surfer insures that if they won't buy content off your site, they will buy content from another site through you.

Basically, there are a few types of programs that an Adult webmaster/site owner can utilize for their new, free, virtual porn store. The types are:

    Partnership Programs

A partnership or per sign-up program will pay you a percentage of each membership you sell through banners or links on your site. When you sign up with one of the partnerships, you will be given a special code. Usually this code will contain your specific ID affixed to a URL that takes the surfer to the sponsor's tour page.

Sometimes a partnership sponsor is all encompassing and will credit your account for a "click" from a user on the tour page. What you would hope is your surfer clicks through all of the tour and then signs up for a membership with your sponsor. Because your special ID is attached to all those clicks when the surfer does submit his/her credit card information, you will be credited for that sale.

"Adult entertainment is (disputably) the most dependable profit model in Internet commerce."
Most sponsorship partners will continue to keep crediting you a smaller percentage for additional months that your surfer continues to pay for their service. This smaller payout is called a Rebill. Another not-so benefiting term you will need to know is the "Charge Back". If your surfer later changes their mind and stops payment to their credit card for your sponsor's service, the sponsor will debit your affiliate account. There are other variations on the percentage payout sponsorship theme.

There are email sponsors that pay you for every surfer that submits their email from your site to their program. There are Adult classified ad sites that pay you for every member you send them. Primarily, the membership concept stays the same. The membership revenue is the most profitable for you per sale, but if your site gets a lot of high volume traffic, you might want to also consider the pay-per-click sponsor.

    Click-Thru Sponsors

Click-thru sponsors pay you for every time a unique surfer clicks on their banner or text link from your site. As with partnership sponsors, your sales activity is tracked by your special ID code. On average, the payout to you is .03 a click. Some pay-per-click sponsors pay more. Some pay less. This small amount can add up on a busy site. If your page has a good day and garners 85,000 hits, then you could conceivably generate 1000 or more clicks on the sponsor's banner or text link.

Some of the all-encompassing sponsors will allow you to start out as a click-thru affiliate, but if your site sends high click-thrus with low resulting membership sign ups, then you will be converted to a pay-per-membership affiliation. I wouldn't recommend depending entirely on pay per click sponsorship, but it can be a nice financial addition to your Adult Internet venture.

    AVS Systems

AVS stands for Adult Verification Service. If you sign up with an AVS sponsor, you will be given the code for a sign-up console that you add to your site. If a surfer pays for an AVS ID, they will get entrance to your site and the assorted other sites the particular AVS sponsor has among their affiliates.

The cost of an AVS ID is generally an annual fee of around $20.00. Your commission will be in the range of 40 to 30 percent of either one, two or three-year memberships garnered through your surfers. The AVS sponsor may also pay you for clicks if your surfer delves further into their tour. The basic format of an AVS site for the Adult webmaster is to build two or three "teaser" pages that make the surfer excited enough to click through them until they get to the AVS sign-up page. From there you will have ideally left your surfer so worked up that they will gladly pay for an AVS ID to continue onto the goodies you offer inside your AVS site.

An AVS site is a great way to move old content from off your main site and into another money generating avenue. Some AVS sponsors even offer some of that free land I mentioned above.

    Dialers

Dialers have been much maligned and their user-end ease is a major contributing factor to their dubious reputation. A dialer sponsor will issue the Adult webmaster affiliate an actual executable program instead of a URL. You as a seller are to entice the surfer to click on, download and install your specific dialer program. Most times your surfer is online when they install and open your dialer. When they do, the program disconnects them from their dial-up connection and dials a new connection to the Dialer's server. The new dialer customer's phone bill will reflect any resulting time spent at the dialer's site.

The cost to the customer for using a dialer depends on the Dialer sponsor. Some connect the user to a server in another country and share those moneys made with you and the Telephone Company. Others will use a dial-up number that is more local and add an extra cost to the by-the-minute fee. The charges to your surfer end up being similar to those they would accrue if they were to spend the same amount of time on a 1-900-entertainment line. Because a dialer is basically a program, it lends itself to the temptation to use dirty tricks like auto-download mouseovers and blind, misleading text links.

Reliable dialer sponsors will put a "cap" on the minutes your surfers buy from them. These sponsors have a maximum charge for each user session and will charge no more than that maximum. If you honestly promote your dialer, your 40 percent payout from it can add up to quite a tidy sum.

After you spend time working with different sponsor programs you might feel a little more like a sharecropper than a homesteader. Selling is hard work. You will find that you need to research your surfers and find out why they came to your site to begin with. What were they searching for that you could sell to them? How much response did you get to a particular banner or sales approach? Is your sponsor over-saturated?

Finding the right sponsor for you is a process.
