    The Healthy Office!

    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | APR.02.2008
One of the problems of being an adult webmaster is that it’s not so easy to work just anywhere. We deal in dirty pictures and video. Try opening up your newest set of blowjob clips at the local coffee shop or city park and see how fast you’re ejected from the property. The sad fact of the matter is that we work inside because we have to. We work inside because inside is where we work best. Besides, mother nature is not kind to electronic equipment. Who wants bird poop on their LCD monitor?

"We work inside because inside is where we work best. Adult webmasters are human beings and human beings perform better in a healthy environment."
Adult webmasters are human beings and human beings perform better in a healthy environment. If you are breathing stale or dirty air, you get tired faster and you can’t concentrate for lack of good oxygen. If you’re sitting all cramped in a bad chair, you’re hurting your body and completely blowing the ability to think clearly. If you’re squinting your eyes or getting headaches from your monitor, your work will suffer. If you’ve let so many hours pass that your legs are numb, you could be seriously affecting your circulatory system. At least with manual labor you get exercise. As an adult webmaster, you owe it to yourself to create a healthy office.

What do we mean by "healthy office"? So many of us work from home. We're lucky if we have privacy, much less a separate office. This brings the purpose of this article to the first step in creating a healthy work environment:

    PRIVACY

It is the rare person that can concentrate in the midst of distraction. Our homes are our sanctuary but even a pet cat can become a bother when one is attempting to work at there. Your first task is to arrange a place in your house or apartment where you can operate undisturbed.

You need to be able to get away from well-meaning spouses, inquisitive children and others. Find that place, be it bedroom, garage or linen closet. Lock the door if you have to. When you take a moment in the middle of a job to deal with a personal matter, it's too easy to let time get away from you.

    OFFICE FURNITURE

Are you hunched over a desk that's too short? What about that chair? Does it support your back and is it set at the right height for your work surface? Your desk and chair are probably the most important items in your office aside from your PC or laptop.

When sitting at your computer, your back should be straight, and your keyboard should be directly across from your fingers at elbow level. If you're having to reach up or down when typing, then you are putting too much strain on your arms and wrists. If you have to lean forward in order to view your screen properly then you compromise your back and cramp your internal organs. Make sure that your desk and chair are adjusted so that you will naturally be sitting in a comfortable, ergonomic position. Acquire a good chair with arms and a desk that offers plenty of room for your legs and feet.

    LIGHTING

Monitor glare is hell on the eyes and can cause headaches. It's important to have additional lighting other than the glow emanating from your PC. Add another light source that will offset the monitor. Sometimes overhead lighting is best. Sometimes a small lamp, placed behind or to the side of your screen works well. You shouldn't have to squint and you shouldn't be nose down the keyboard, searching in the dark.

Naturally, you'll want to make sure the extra light does not reflect off your computer screen.

    AIR QUALITY

Breathing is instinctual. Most of the time, you probably don't think about the air around you. This is where most people mess up when it comes to creating a healthy work environment. Don't neglect the air quality of your home office.

Consider purchasing an air purifier and bring in a plant or four. The best air cleaners ever are plants. They love that carbon we expel with every exhale. The soil and roots absorb nasty particles. Plants expel oxygen. Plants are pleasing to the eye. Electric air purifiers come in all sizes, prices and configurations. Operate one near you and you'll find that you have more energy and work more productively.

There are other things you can do to improve your well-being while working and here are a few. It is important to make sure that the noise level is amenable in your workspace. Privacy rules out many audible distractions but do try to purchase computer equipment that runs quietly. Absolutely schedule breaks for stretching, eating and the occasional venture outside. Try to work on a set schedule and be firm about following through.

You are working in an exciting field at an exciting time. You're trying to build a better future for yourself. You’~l get there faster and survive the journey if you do it from a healthy office.
