From the calendars on their desks to the bulletin board flyers at the grocery store, people want to know what is going on and what is coming up.
Adult humans are busy creatures. We're not as busy as bees or ants but we manage to fill a day. We've been obsessed with schedules since the beginning of our kind. We're certainly not the only species that plans a day but we (most of us) have definitely moved beyond:
Monday -
1. Find food
2. Find shelter
3. Don't get killed

"If you're expecting your members to voluntarily visit your site and search for new content without some sort of guide, you're going to be disappointed." |
In this modern world, people allocate every activity to slots of time. There's "work time", "personal business time", "vacation time" and "free time". We have untold options for how we can spend our designated "free time". To you, your site is work time. To your site members, your site is "free time". For you, your site is the top priority on your to-do list. For your members, your site is a place they will go when they have some "free time". As a site owner, you are in a constant struggle to keep your page in the forefront of your member's minds. You have to make sure they keep coming back to you when "free time" comes around.
When we were beta-testing our paysite, Cozy Toons, we featured a WHAT'S NEW update to our members. For two months, we removed the WHAT'S NEW feature. As a result, we lost a number of rebill clients during that time. We then reinstated the WHAT'S NEW feature and we regained the business we lost and continued to grow.
When you run an adult website, especially a paysite, you are expected to update. Our goal is not just to gain members but to retain members. The only way we can do this is by regularly adding fresh content to our sites.
What you may not understand is that your site member is blissfully unaware that you just added twenty hot galleries and ten nasty vids this week. Your members hit your site on their own time, on their "free time". If you're expecting your members to voluntarily visit your site and search for new content without some sort of guide, you're going to be disappointed. They don't want to work to find the new stuff. They want you to tell them exactly when you update and where those updates are.
There are a few ways to get the word out about updates to your site.
The first and most obvious way is by posting update information on your main page, as well as navigational headers/footers and menus. With each page that your site member opens, they should be able to easily locate a button or text link that clearly reads: WHAT'S NEW, NEW, UPDATED or something to that effect.
Some site owners post site updates on the front page as a news item. Some make scrolling marquees that run across the site. However you choose to design your site, make sure that when your members come to call, they know right off the bat, where the updates are located.
Another way to remind your members about updates is through newsletters and opt-in email.
When you send such reminders, you reach your clients when they're not on your site. You reach them before they experience their valuable, elusive "free time". After all, you have no idea how your members spend their days. You can't predict when "free time" becomes available to them. You want to notify them before the fact so they can plan their impending "free time" at your paysite. If you do it properly - through opt-in newsletters and email updates by subscription - you'll find these reminders are welcomed happily. Your member will appreciate these updates.
As a site owner, it's always wise to imagine things from the perspective of your members. You have to remember that surfers are busy humans and they forget things easily, even your mega-awesome fantabulous porn site. Don't let your members forget you because you neglected to remind them that you exist. Post updates and new content/features prominently on your pages. Send out newsletters and emails to willing members that inform them of your continued excellence.
Let them know WHAT'S NEW WITH YOU!
