There's an abundance of wonderful sponsor-provided content available to the adult webmaster, so much, that it's easy to forgo buying your own. There's nothing wrong with sponsor content. In fact, it's better than it has ever been. FHGs, online stores, fresh daily feeds and video clips, even sponsor-provided hosting. You can build quite the collection of little spoke sites and pages with sponsor content. It's only logical that if you want to sell a sponsor, you offer your surfers samples from the source. There's every reason in the world to use sponsor content.
That being said, there's a whole lot right with buying your own adult content.

"In a cyberworld loaded with porn sites, originality becomes the beacon that shines brighter than the rest. Purchased content equals originality." |
The problem with sponsor content is that there are hundreds, maybe thousands of other adult webmasters, filling their pages with the very same stuff. In a cyberworld loaded with porn sites, originality becomes the beacon that shines brighter than the rest. Purchased content equals originality. You want to offer your visitors images and video that they can't find on a thousand other porn domains. If you're going to go the paysite route, originality is an absolute imperative. Free site or paysite, if you are serious about making money, you're going to have to spend money on content - be it static images, video clips, live streams, xxx stories or plugin movies.
Fret not, dear webmaster. Paid content is more affordable than ever. The basic rule is that the more high-quality, the more unique. The higher the price. You can pay as little as $5.00 for a set of 50 images to as much a $2.00 per pic - more if you want exclusive. The decision on how much to spend depends on the type of site you're trying to create.
Are you building a simple gallery page or small three-gallery free site? Then you probably don't want to spend more than $25.00 per image set. In fact, you'll probably want to spend a lot less. The intention of galleries and mini-free sites is to promote your sponsors. There are pages that we refer to as "build them then and forget them". You're probably never going to do anything else with these pages after you submit them to TGPs and link directories.
Now, if you're wanting to build a hub-type free site, then you're going to want to spend more on your content. Not a whole lot more, just enough so that the images and clips stand out amongst all the same-old stuff. With a hub site, you want it to be sticky. You want bookmarkers and visitors that come back for updates. In order to attract these kinds of surfers, you have to offer them content that hasn't been seen that often. Once again, remember the basic rule: The more unique, the higher the price. $30.00 for a set of 50 images is a good starting price. $50.00 per set of 50 is way too expensive. When you get into the one-dollar-per-photo range, you're getting into paysite content territory.
As for moving imagery, this is where things get serious. This is where you have to decide if you're going to be a webmaster that sells sponsor programs or a paysite owner. It's not that videos, feeds and streams cost that much, it's more about what you're willing to give away to a bunch of horny freeloaders. A few short clips on your free site aren't that expensive, unless you're starting to get a lot of traffic.
Remember that you have to pay for bandwidth on anything your visitors download directly from your server. Even the little IMB clips add up when you've got lots of traffic. If you're till in the free site, sponsor-pushing mode, you'd probably do best to just stick with sponsor-hosted clips, or you could pay for a small, updated plugin. There all kinds of video/moving image/animation/game plugins and some of them can be had for as little as $50.00 per month. The problem is that many of these content providers prefer to deal with paysite owners as opposed to free site owners. The other problem is whether or not you're giving your surfers too much for nothing.
As for paysite, then you've got take several factors into consideration. The main factor is, once again, originality. You could build yet another cookie-cutter paysite, loaded with the same-old feeds and images, wrapped inside the same-old tour templates as a thousand other paysites. If you do that, you risk investing a lot of money into something nobody with pay for. You want to find content that is above the cut and high quality. Sure, you can pad your paysite with oft-used plugins and inexpensive galleries galore, but the main attraction, the drawing card, is going to be your exclusivity. Think plugins and feeds, starting at $250.00 per month per. Expect to pay more than a dollar per static image. Expect to shell out for games, stories, message boards, live chat and weekly, if not daily updates.
Once again, the old adage applies. You have to spend money to make money. Paid content is serious business. Before you start spending like a fool, stop and start thinking like an adult webmaster. For the best content listings, visit Cozy Frog's Content Provider listings.
