    Converting Strategies!
    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | JUN.11.2008

Traffic is nice. Without it, we would be nothing. As you putter along that road to porn riches, you've come to understand that ours is a numbers game. The more people that visit your site or gallery or blog, the better the chances are that you'll make money. You want traffic. You need traffic. You might even know how to get it. What you may not know is what to do with that traffic once you have it.

People are greedy. Porn surfers are especially greedy. They want free content and as long as you give it to them, they will take it. A busy site isn't always a profitable site. Yeah, you're giving away scads of free images and your little porn page is super busy. But, are you generating any signups? Are your faithful surfers helping you or are they leeching your bandwidth? Maybe your site is only moderately busy but you're still not making the green. What is the next step? How do you turn traffic into conversions? What are the strategies?

Strategy One - Cover All Exits

"If you have traffic, you're half way there. The indefinable trick is to turn those hits into money. Who knows why your glossy, high-end gallery fails but your crummy, 90's-style free site converts like a bitch?"
As your gallery or free porn site loads, you've got roughly 25 seconds to impress your surfer. After your sample of tasty, hot sex, satisfies, you have a fleeting opportunity to dazzle your surfer with a sales pitch(es). There really aren't any newbies anymore. All surfers know how the back button on a browser works. It's tough enough to keep a visitor from backing out the front door. Don't let them sneak out any side doors either. Every outgoing text link or banner is a exit away from your interests. Make sure that outgoing links lead to your sponsors or to one of your other sites. If you absolutely must post a link to a site that makes you no money, write the code so the page opens in a new window. As long as a surfer is on your website, you have a potential customer. When they leave through one of your links, make those links to places that profit you. Back button manipulation is usually forbidden when it comes to galleries and sites one submits to a top list or TGP. You're kind of powerless if a surfer simply backs out of your page but all the other exits are under your command. Send them to one of your many galleries. Send them to your blog. Send them to your sponsor. Cover all your exits so your traffic has a chance to be productive.

Strategy Two - Ads Always in Eye Line

Do you have a blog? Have you ever scrolled down? Does your ad-filled sidebar cut off long before your posts? How about that gallery you just made? Where is your sponsor banner? Is it at the bottom, after the thumbnail gallery? Big mistake. Your surfer has to see the program or paysite you're trying to promote, everywhere on your page. Whether your content is static images or video clips, adorn them with text links, small button banners, page-lining vertical banners and good-old fashioned marketing copy. You don't have to go nuts, but arrange your layout so that no matter where a surfer is physically on your site, a sponsor ad/link is within the eyeline.

    Strategy Three - Personalize It

Selling porn is an interactive experience. Your site is the same as ten thousand other sites that sell smut. Your unique perspective and taste is what keeps bookmarkers coming back. Don't be afraid to interject some of yourself in your porn site. Give your visitors your hearty opinion about a sponsor's gonzo portal. Tell surfers that why you think a certain model is special. Even with a gallery or a three-page free site, you can give your work a touch of you. Tell a joke. Write a testimonial. When a potential customer begins to identify with you, you got them on the hook.

    Strategy Four - Be Flexible

Give everything a try but learn when to say when. There aren't any magic words. Converting traffic to sales is tricky business. Your sponsors offer plenty of marketing tools and ignoring them outright is foolish. Try the free banners and content. Give the geo-targeted ads a shot. See if the free hosted galleries can generate some cash. If sponsor tools and content don't help, see if it's okay to make your own banners, write your own sales copy. If that doesn't work, try other things like interstitial ads or blog widgets. If doodads don't work, take another look at your layout and try to make your page more salable. If all that fails, then it may be time to say “when” and look for another sponsor.

If you have traffic, you're half way there. The indefinable trick is to turn those hits into money. Who knows why your glossy, high-end gallery fails but your crummy, 90's-style free site converts like a bitch? The genius is in the repetition. When you find something that works, do it again and again and again. Cover all the exits, keep the ads in the eyelines, throw in some of your personal charm and be flexible. When a strategy is victorious, repeat that strategy. Apply your own creative strategy today!
