Don't get defensive. This article is not intended as some twisted moral decree. We're pornographers, just like you. We're not about to judge your lifestyles, your choices or whatever. However, we've been around for a while and we want you to be around for a while too. We want pass on to you a lesson that once learned, will change your life. That lesson is this:

If you think that success will make you happy, then you've got it all mixed up. Happiness is what makes you successful.

According to a paper in the Psychological Bulletin, some university researchers and Gallup have concluded that successful people are most often happy to begin with.

After examining over 200 studies of more than a quarter of a million participants, the group, led by Sonja Lyubomirsky, felt that the past studies began with the wrong hypothesis. Past investigators began with the premise that financially successful people were happy because of the money. Yet, when these people were asked what it was that made them happy, they responded with answers such as: a good marriage, personal autonomy, respect from peers and healthy bodies.

Looking further into the past studies, was more evidence that fortunate people are fortunate because they work well with others, are self-motivated and willing to go the extra mile - all traits associated with happy people. Adding to this was data, showing that the type of person most likely to be fired from a job was the one disliked by his/her co-workers.

To put it simply: Happiness = Success.

What has this to do with your hard luck story? What has it to do with selling porn on the Internet? Only everything.

Whatever shitty deal you got in life. We're sorry. Just the same, moaning the day away and looking for an enemy in every fellow webmaster is not the way to handle your problems. You have to buck up and do your part. A lousy attitude shows, even through a computer monitor. Nobody's going to care that your designs are the bomb if you act like an emo all the time. Who wants to deal with some self-absorbed sad-sack? Besides, bitching is very time consuming. Wouldn't your day be better served by good, hard work?

Mind you, we're not talking about mental illness here. If you're clinically depressed, for heaven's sake, get some counseling. This article is for the sourpusses and the pig-heads. This is for the whiners and the blamers. This is for all those that honestly believe that successful people are somehow immune to suffering. (They're not) This is for the ones that think they have the only hard luck story. (You don't)
