Retro Smut Lovin'! - Part #2
    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | OCT.22.2004

** Continued From: Retro Smut Lovin'! - Part #1

In part one of this two-part series I wrote about the concept of selling Vintage/Retro porn. I explained the difference between Vintage vs. Retro porn.

Vintage porn is usually imagery and film created before and at the advent of the camera. I estimated the period of vintage porn to be anywhere between the late 1800’s and somewhere towards the end of the 1930’s. I wrote that porn has been around since the days when prehistoric man scratched pictures on cave walls and carved crude figurines out of stone. I showed that the amount of existing porn increases in relevance to our technological advances as a race. In other words, there’s not a lot of vintage porn out there but it’s still out there.

"...the amount of existing porn increases in relevance to our technological advances as a race. In other words, there's not a lot of vintage porn out there but it's still out there."
Then I illustrated the notion of Retro porn. I informed you how things have changed sexually since the end of the WWII era and how the transformation hasn’t slowed down since. The kinkiness of the repressive fifties is a great source of Retro content and the Retro supply stores only increase as they reach the nineteen eighties on the timeline.

I elucidated on the fuzzy line between Vintage porn and Retro porn. My idea of Retro is probably some 25 year-olds impression of Vintage. The period from 1930-1965 could be defined either way I suppose.

I am getting old err…Vintage. Scratch that. I’m Retro. Yeah, that’s me.

I suppose you’re all thinking, “You’re not old Titmowse. You’re ageless!

Bullshit. You’re all thinking, “Will this bitch ever stop rambling and tell us how to make money with this stuff?

First. How does one go about acquiring Vintage/Retro porn?

The cool part about Vintage content is that some of it is probably public domain. If you find a box of dirty postcards that belonged your great, great Grandpa, chances are nobody will lay claim to them except maybe your great, great Grandma. Still, it would be prudent to investigate the licensing rights on any found content like this. A visit to a lawyer would be good start.

Look for names on the stuff like the names of photographers, photography studios and if it’s in an old tyme magazine, look at the masthead for the name of the publishing firm. The same goes for old books. You can reprint ‘Lady Chatterly’s Lover’ all you want but you better make sure the publisher and/or author doesn’t own rights to any edits made in the text you copy from. As far as scanning is concerned, if the source you’re scanning from has someone else’s name somewhere on it, he or she (or the heirs) probably own it.

As far as Retro porn is concerned it’s somewhat easier to obtain and three-times as protected against unauthorized use. The fact is it’s pretty damned hard to find any Retro/Vintage porn you can use on your own adult sites and pages. I’ve been researching adult webmaster resources and so far there’s been only two providers who have sets and those sets are both Retro. Those providers are:

Second. How do I make money with Vintage/Retro porn?

You build some sites and stick up some sponsor ads. That’s the quick answer.

To be more precise, build a site where the Vintage/Retro niche ads blend with your other content. Story content goes nicely with Retro, especially if you’ve got someone who can write romance erotica. Women enjoy Vintage/Retro content because it’s less degrading than some of the porn of today. BDSM and Fetish lovers dig the underwear from the quirky fifties and previous eras. So do Goths. Mature lovers like Vintage/Retro porn as well as do softcore fans. Even Gay men and Lesbians love the oldies.

Fortunately it’s fairly easy to find sponsor programs that feature Vintage/Retro paysites in their portfolios. This is only logical because they’re probably the bastards who bought up all the Vintage/Retro content. Just kidding. I love the sponsors and I’m going to name some nice Vintage/Retro ones in this following section:

RetroRaunch
(http://retroraunch.com/webmasters.htm)
This sponsor program claims a webmaster benefit I’ve never seen before. They state: “*Full commissions paid on members that cancel and return within the initial one-year period. RetroRaunch members do it all the time.” That speaks highly about the quality of this Vintage/Retro paysite. They also offer 45% commission on both recurring and PPS. They even include some swell marketing tools.

ShockingCash
(http://www.shockingcash.com)
Promote their site Retro Lady and they’ll pay out 60% through their Partnership program. They even have a nifty feature for affiliate webmasters so they can mask referrer Ids with a sub-domain Alias! These folks work hard on each site within their portfolio and they look pretty tight.

TooMuchGreen
(http://toomuchgreen.com)
TooMuchGreen has been in the adult Internet biz for a very long time. Not only do they offer stability as a sponsor but when you promote their Vintage/Retro paysite Nostalgia Porn, you get paid for sales. 60%-65% recurring. $25.00-$35.00 per sign up. Affiliates even get cool prizes for generating high sales ratios.

SinBucks
(http://sinbucks.com/main.html)
Brad Mitchell has a corner on the Internet and it’s all about sin. Sell the site Antique Porn and make 50% lifetime recurring. Rely on honest stats and ample support from this sponsor, alternative billing provider and website host.

While everyone else it out looking for the next big Internet porn fad, why not save yourself the grief and sell the real classics? Buck the trends and embrace the past. The one thing that never gets old is money!
