Help Guides - Code Professor, HTML Java Programming

    Scripts are your Friends!
    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | APR.05.2007

I’m a solo webmaster. I don’t create any sites for Cozy. I build them for me. I am not a great webmaster. I am skilled enough to construct a working website without outside assistance. I am fluent in HTML. I can create logos, arrange layouts, cut and optimize images, add hyperlinks, nest tables, paste banners and then upload all to my ftp server. I have obtained these abilities on my own and my brain is just about full with the knowledge I’ve picked up over the last ten years. I’ve very old, almost fifty. I’m supposed to be finished with going to school.

"Programmers are not Gods but their kung fu is heavenly. While we're busy cramming our craniums with design theory, image editing, marketing wisdom and trend analysis, programmers fulfill a role that most of us aren't intelligent enough to master, much less comprehend."
The sad thing is there is much more I should learn. For instance, I know nothing about programming. Databases frighten me and words like PHP and CGI scare me to pieces. I run screaming from anything code- related other than old easy, HTML. Sweet, innocent JavaScript wouldn’t hurt a fly but that fact doesn’t quell the shivers I feel when I see it, typed out, with its funky characters. There might come a time when I have the desire to attend some sort of computer language class but probably not...ever.

Here’s the happy thing. Odds are that when I want to add a dynamic element to my website, there will be a pre-made script, available for me to insert into my HTML document. I may only require a few lines of code. I might need a fully customizable script with ample tech support. I could find a free script or pay a programmer to create one exclusively for me. The adult Internet industry includes numerous talented programmers that forge ready-to-use scripts and programming for you. Why try to force unfathomable code into your tired noggin when you don’t have to?

Remember how I described JavaScript as sweet and innocent? Well, it really is. If you search, you will be impressed with the abundance of sites where you can locate little snippets of JavaScript code that will perform all kinds of tasks and actions on a website. Hide a surfer’s status bar. Open an exit window. Have visitors email you through a webform without any CGI. All of these things can be done with JavaScript tags that you copy-and-paste within your HTML HEAD and BODY. The reason I say sweet and innocent is because there are tons of free and/or inexpensive JavaScript codes that can be had at this moment.

As for other scripts, there’s no dearth of them. Would you like to run a traffic trade with other webmaster’s sites? Perhaps you would like to install a server-side script to run online applications for your members. Maybe all you need is editing software with which you can create small scripts via a wizard. Then again, you might necessitate a high-maintenance script, complete with a live guide and frequent updates.

Programmers are not Gods but their kung fu is heavenly. While we’re busy cramming our craniums with design theory, image editing, marketing wisdom and trend analysis, programmers fulfill a role that most of us aren’t intelligent enough to master, much less comprehend.

What about you? Why denigrate what you’ve accomplished as an adult webmaster by comparing your acumen against a programmer’s? Did you notice how I mentioned all the talents one must adapt in order to be a lone webmaster? Aren’t you busy already? With all you have to do, from creation, to uploading to updating to promotion, how would learning PHP fit into your schedule? Isn’t the act of hiring outside help the mark of a smart businessperson? Isn’t ‘businessperson’ another hat you have to wear as an Internet pornographer? Is the tired-brain metaphor sinking in yet?

Go. Find a ready script or commission someone to write one exclusively for you. Stop trying to be something you’re not. Stop trying to make things hard. This profession is becoming more specialized each day. There are many companies and individuals that provide adult webmasters with service instead of competition. You will find the best of them listed at Cozy Frog. You’ll uncover ample URLs to programmers and scripts by clicking on the Software/Scripts link, located on the left side of every Frog page.

Scripts are your friends! Get out there and find one that’s friendly for you!
