Make a List. Then Do it Right!
    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | FEB.19.2006

I could probably spend a few hours researching a case to prove that list making is a productive tool for improving work performance. I would probably find gigs of information to back the proposition that "Lists = Efficiency = Proficiency = Success". I could do all that work but I would just be telling you something you know already.

"The truth is, adult webmasters are damned busy. The fact is there aren't enough hours in the day to complete the tasks that need completing."
Oh come on! Is it really necessary to take you by your hand, sit you down in front of a piece of paper or computer and make you compose a list of things you need to do? Don't kid me. You are a grown adult. You can't tell me that you have absolutely zero pending duties. You'll never convince me that you are free from responsibilities and/or necessary chores. There is no way in the world you've never forgotten an appointment or neglected a situation. You know very well that just because you intend to do something, that doesn't mean you're going to get it done.

From your mother, to your teachers to the bosses that came before you, I bet a nickel that somewhere along the way, one of them told you to make a list and then follow that list.

So, we understand the situation better, let me explain: An adult webmaster has to perform numerous duties and acquire many skills in order to make money.

  • If you're a gallery maker, you need to find content and sponsors, design and build gallery pages, submit those galleries to numerous TGP sites, check stats, analyze sales and visitor data and then repeat these steps every single day.

  • When you're a free site builder, you have to find content and sponsors, design and build sites, submit those sites to top lists and search engines, check sponsor stats and analyze traffic. You'll be needing to update older sites in order to keep a flow of new surfers. You'll maintain trades and create little spokes for your hub sites.

  • When you're a paysite owner and/or affiliate sponsor, you've got a huge list of tasks to fill your day. Even if you've got a team of employees, you'll still have to make decisions on content, design, marketing methods, affiliate monitoring, payouts and member complaints. You're the lucky bastard that has to fulfill the demands of hosts, designers, content providers, billers and all those people depending on you to run your business properly and professionally.

  • If you're an adult resource, you've got constantly develop and create new products and services. You have to deal with webmasters, site owners, gallery builders, hosts and money matters. In addition, you have to insure that your content or service comes as advertised and then you have to advertise it.

  • As a newbie webmaster, you've got the most work ahead of you. Pick one of the examples above and add even more duties. You've got to read tutorials and lessons. You have to research prosperous websites and winning galleries. You have to learn how to build a page, design a page, promote a page, while at the same time practicing your new skills. You have to acquaint yourself with other webmasters and familiarize yourself with sponsors that pay and content that converts. You have to pick a niche and understand your target audience. You have to devote yourself to learning and improving. You will try and fail and try and fail.

The truth is, adult webmasters are damned busy. The fact is there aren't enough hours in the day to complete the tasks that need completing. If anything, a nice TO-DO list will help you divide your overwhelming needs into manageable, daily bites.

There's no way I can make your list for you. I don't need to anyway. You know perfectly well what must be done. You're fully aware of how much is too much and how much is not enough. Making a list is as easy as a pen and paper or opening NOTEPAD on your computer. You can use a cool word-processing template to create a perky, colorful list if you want to. Hell, you can spell it out with refrigerator magnets for all I care. We're all adults here. You know and I know that you'll perform better and get more done if you make a list of things to do.

There's only one way you can screw up the list thing. Lists don't help if you ignore them. Lists serve no purpose if they sit by your monitor, unchecked and unattended. Lists require attention and action. Don't just make a list. DO EVERYTHING ON YOUR LIST. And don't stop there. Make a new list for the next day and the next and every day afterward. Make lists as much a part of your day as eating and brushing your teeth. Get addicted to the list habit. Make a list. Then do it right!
