** Continued From: Attack of the Pod Porn! - Part #1
Part one of this two-part series is where I explained to you the emergence of handheld communication devices such as the iPod, the PSP and the cellphone. I told you that these gadgets are as powerful today
as were the desktop and laptop computers of recent history. I gave you the numbers on just how many cellphones; iPods and PSPs have been sold to the masses.

"The point being is that the porn and the sex are already on the wire, coming in loud and clear. Americans being slow on the uptake is a reality you can work to your advantage." |
In this second portion of the article I am going to show you more reasons why adult webmasters need to get in the mobile game pronto. The market already exists but you still have the opportunity to
promote something hot before it becomes just another over-saturated niche. I’ll also show you sites and sponsors that are currently offering affiliate programs for mobile porn.
Before I go on, let me make one thing clear, this piece is written with American webmasters in mind. I love my country but I recognize our arrogance. Adult webmasters in the US tend to believe that they
operate on the edge of technology. While I will not deny that US porn money is still very desirable to Internet pornographers everywhere, I would be foolish and wrong to ignore that other countries are kicking our ass when it comes to mobile communications.
Take the Japanese. Americans bemoan the cellphone’s dominance in modern society but the Japanese are so in love with these little pocket wonders they have a term for it: Keitai Culture
meaning “mobile phone culture”.
Folks in Japan do practically everything with Keitai. Text messaging, television viewing, emailing, web browsing, music downloading, music playing. In fact, the Japanese
think nothing of paying for things by cellphone because they do it all the time.
Ironically, the Japanese are much more civil about mobile phones than Americans are. You won’t find a Japanese person yapping on the bus with a cellphone. Silently playing a game or texting a lover, yes, but disturbing the peace on a train, never.
The point being is that mobile communications have become the be-all, end-all in almost every developed nation except the United States. The point being is that the porn and the sex are already on the wire, coming in loud and clear. Americans being slow on the uptake is a reality you can work to your advantage.
Creating porn for iPods, PSPs and cellphone is easier than ever. It’s all about formatting video and content so that it can be read on these devices. WAP files are fairly outdated but they’re still in use and
you’ll definitely need to familiarize yourself with XML. As for video, the iPod is all about MPEG 4, and H.264 video. The PSP understands UMD (Universal Media Disc). Cellphone makers are making items that will be able to process the above-mentioned formats as well as FLASH and pretty much any audio/video format that comes down the pike. As an adult content producer, you would be smart if you started to offer video clips and images for handheld communications.
As an affiliate webmaster, this is a good time. All you have to do is scratch a sponsor and you’ll find they have at least one mobile site that you can promote for money. Here’s a quick list of just a few:
Now for a bit of rain on this parade of love for Pod Porn.
Nielson conducted its first-ever survey of iPod users this last October. When it comes to iPod users and video, the numbers claim that the hype about armies of Pod-zombies, glued to their little screens is
exaggerated.
According to Nielson, only one percent of users are watching videos on an iPod. Nielson estimates that of all the iPod owners out there, just 15.8 % have ever loaded a video onto their
units. Nielson does admit that further study is needed and my guess is that adult content isn’t part of the research because Nielson is basing its findings on downloads directly from iTunes.
At this point in time, it’s impossible to say that video usage won’t explode in the future. Even cellphone users aren’t living up to the expectations of marketers and providers. The folks at techie site ARS Technica put the blame squarely on screen size and battery life.
However, Garner Media predicts that there will be 1.1 billion cellphones sold in 2007. Most of those new cellphones will have video/viewing capability. As an adult webmaster, you remember how well
our industry performed when the Internet was new. I predict that as long as we keep the content easy, short and sweet, we’ll make lots of money at least for now.
