    Automate Your Work!
    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | DEC.01.2008

Hey, young newbies. Indulge an old lady and her fading memories.

When I was in my mid-twenties, I had a brief relationship with a Commodore Amiga 2000. It wasn't mine but I was allowed to play with it and fell in love with DeluxePaint. I made some sweet fliers for our band. Of course, the band leader was far ahead of me, it was his computer. That dude had patched the keyboard and the drum machine through that Amiga. He even created digital animations that were timed to play, via a video projector onto a screen, placed behind us. We were hipper than hip and so cool we broke up just as we were getting attention. Good times. After the band split up, I never saw that Amiga again. I still miss her.

"No matter how big or small your web business is, there's probably a program or two that will turn you into a more productive, more efficient adult webmaster."
No, I wasn't like you. I didn't spend my teen years glued to a tiny monitor, trying to recreate Matthew Broderick's little stunts in War Games. I spent my teen years trying to get into nightclubs., smoking dope and driving around in cars. I got my first PC at the grand old age of 35. Thirty-five years of life without computers, except for one eye-opening year when I was the singer in an awesome band. I like to think that in the last thirteen years, I've made up for my misspent youth as a clueless Luddite. I'm an honorary geek now and I hope someday, you young whippersnappers will accept me as a member of your tribe.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that because of that funky beige box, our band was able to put on a rather electorate stage show - automatically. I may not know much but I know that the overriding purpose of computers is to automate tasks. With that Amiga and DeluxePaint I was able to turn a simple line drawing into an animated image in a matter of moments.

I'm kind of proud of the skills I've picked up over that last decade and a half. I've taught myself HTML, CSS and PHP. I know some basic commands for DOS and have recently learned some for Linux. I install all my own hardware upgrades. I learned how to operate at least a hundred software programs. I suck at design but I know my way around graphic software, video editors, sound editors and I've become moderately proficient with Flash. Every time I think I've given up learning how to use a new program, some fresh software catches my eye and I'm up all night trying to get it to work. The more applications I mess with, the happier I am because each and every one has made my work easier and my efforts less tedious. I may be old but I'm not too old to appreciate the benefit of learning new things.

Then there's you, the adult Internet newbie. You've got so much to learn so that you may swim in this sea of competition. Perhaps you already know your way around website editors, FTP software and graphic programs. You've developed a particular method for building your pages and sites. Perhaps you've gotten to the point where you're making some fairly regular money. You know that all you need to do now is repeat what was successful as often as possible. You can do it the hard way or you can do it the easy way by taking a little time to learn how to use Content Management software.

There are various permutations of Content Management software. There's link builders, gallery builders and/or submitters, paysite managers, ad managers, whatever-you-need managers. Some companies offer these programs and scripts ala-cart, others bundle the whole thing in one. No matter how big or small your web business is, there's probably a program or two that will turn you into a more productive, more efficient adult webmaster. Here are some of the best:

Probably the most well-known software program in our industry. What you may not realize is just how extensive this program is. It doesn't just automate the submission of galleries, it aids you in building those galleries. Take time check out Chameleon's other programs.

The CMS stand for Content Management System. This the is big paysite manager you brave paysite owners need. It manages everything from passwords, to updates, to keywords as well as all your content.

This company offers four different managers - Paysite manager, TGP manager, FHG manager and Affiliate manager. Run a paysite as well as an affiliate program with products from AWizSoft.

Like a department store of Content management, XIGLA offers 13 different managers as well as great deals on bundles of two or more. You name it, XIGLA's probably got it.

Look, I'm an decrepit old lady. For all intents and purposes, I should be too stubborn to learn new tricks, much less new software. That's the funny thing about being old. You come to realize that when you find something that will make your life easier, you grab it as fast as you can. Content Management software looks pretty darned attractive to this old gal. Take some advice, get something new and learn how to make it work for you. You won't regret it.
