    A Look at Banner Exchanges
    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | OCT.09.2002

"There are specific and well-known ways to bring traffic to your adult website. The litany of methods is ritual knowledge to most adult webmasters..."
Traffic. Everyone wants it. Some even cheat to get it. Traffic is traded, bartered, sold and has become a commodity on it’s own. Whether or not massive amounts of traffic truly help in the generation of income is a debate for another article. One truth can be stated, it’s impossible to make money from an adult site with no traffic.

There are specific and well-known ways to bring traffic to your adult website. The litany of methods is ritual knowledge to most adult webmasters: Key words placed in Meta Tags, URL submission to all possible search engines, acquisition of placement on Top Lists, regular gallery submissions to TGPs, link trade negotiation and placement thereof. We all implement them and manipulate them and then try to come up with something more original.

This consistency among adult webmaster’s promotional efforts points out the dilemma: If everyone uses the same methods, then everyone gets the same results or those who act first get all the gold and the slower ones get all the dirt. That’s why it never hurts to use a promotional tool that’s not as well known or popular.

Banner exchange programs are looked upon as a dusty relic from Internet’s past. Amateur homepage makers are famous for Link Exchange banners served off their Geocities or Angelfire free web-hosting accounts. Adult webmasters look at banner exchange programs with disdain because the graphic takes up precious page space. Space that could be devoted to a sponsor ad, which can generate actual income.

A site counter graphic is more pleasing to the adult webmaster because they simply must track their site traffic. Of course, exchange banners do catalog traffic; they simply track it from other people’s pages. If anything, an exchange banner is one you make or supply yourself.

You can definitely test the quality of your salesmanship and apply it better from tracking an ad of your own design. A good banner will draw traffic and an exchange member who gives out good traffic gets good traffic in return. Adult webmasters have a choice of banner exchange programs geared expressly for them. The effects of these programs depend on the effectiveness of the webmaster’s sales techniques.

The site creator applies for the banner exchange program and then places a specified code on their site. The code is really a rotating banner. For each time that a surfer visits your site, the ad for another site appears on the exchange banner. The more times your site is hit, the more your banner appears on other exchange member’s pages. The exchange system will track the amount of times your banner has been shown on other pages and many times will catalog how many times surfers click on your banner.

In other words, your ad banner will appear on other member’s sites and will hopefully be effective enough to entice visitors to click to your page. Most banner exchange programs give new members credits for exposures, meaning that your banner flies on other sites a certain amount of times without having earned clicks from your traffic. Once the free exposure period runs out, you get exposures on the other member’s sites by getting more traffic to your page where the exchange banners appear.

There are quite a few banner exchange programs for adult webmasters. Some require you to have existing traffic, but most will not and will even give you a certain amount of free credits. Here are some banner exchange programs adult site builders can use to help them get that extra traffic edge:

Sex Swap
(http://www.sexswap.com)
Maybe the most well known of the adult banner exchange programs, Sex Swap has several different banner programs offering either a one-to-one exchange ratio or a one-to-two ration. The best part of all is exchange members can receive Sex Swap's most excellent industry newsletter. It's always full of amazing tricks and tips to help your business.

Banner Overdrive
(http://www.banneroverdrive.com)
Banner Overdrive caters to those who cater to adult webmasters. People who run webmaster type sites like resource pages, Pic Posts, TGPs, content producers and the like will get 100 hundred free credits for joining the service.

Adult Exchange
(http://www.adult-exchange.com/banex)
Applicants to this service are hand-approved by their reviewer. Their ratio is 3:2. For every 3 times you show a member banner, you'll get 2 exposures on another site.

Sure they’re a bit old-fashioned. Sure, they take up page space. Just the same, banner exchanges come in very handy for the novice adult webmaster who needs all the help they can get. Banner exchanges are also a great way to basically put ads on other sites without having to pay one, thin dime. This can be excellent public relations for a new non-adult venture or more industry-related service. Banner exchanges give as good as you give. They are not rushing fountains of traffic, they are what they are: another way to reach the masses.
