    TGP2 Still Ticking!
    By Steve | Writer @ CozyFrog | JAN.24.2003

Within days of joining this industry every new webmaster is going to come across the lament of “"there's too much free porn"” that echoes continually through this industry. It is not something new, it has been around for years and it is something that everyone agrees with. There really is too much free porn out there and yet no-one seems to know what to do to remedy the situation.

It is always easy to blame people and you will constantly hear webmasters blaming TGPs, programs like Kazaa and even newbies for the glut of free porn.

"Two sales later and I was sure that TGP2 was not dead."
I suppose it helps some people to know who is at fault while others feel very justified when they can point their fingers at others as being the cause of the problem. Whatever the cause might be, nobody seems to be able to come up with a workable solution to the problem.

There have certainly been some attempts in the past to limit the amount of free porn that is out there. The last time anyone made a solid effort was a couple of years ago when a number of webmasters pioneered the TGP2 movement.

The concept behind TGP2 was that it would replace TGPs. Instead of listing galleries that contained 10, 15 or more thumbs, a TGP2 site would list galleries that contained just 5 thumbs that linked to the corresponding bigger pictures or to html pages that contain the big pics. Gallery builders were encouraged to include extra advertising on their galleries and many TGP2 lists encouraged webmasters to put the big images on html pages that also included advertising.

The concept was quite radical for the time and while the people behind TGP2 included some fairly level-headed webmasters, there were also some rat-bags who did little to gain the support of those already heavily involved in TGP. Despite the poor communication skills of some people who were involved in TGP2, the concept really did look like it was about to take-off and there were a number of bigger TGPs that were on the verge of converting to TGP2.

Unfortunately the TGP2 movement attracted the attention of a few people who had a different agenda than everyone else. They gained control of the movement and used it for their own ends and eventually the concept died. Well, you would be forgiven for thinking that it had died but a few remained and continued slowly massaging the movement back to life.

I was involved in TGP2 for quite some time and was doing a lot of gallery building. At its high point I was submitting between two and five galleries every day to over 150 TGP2s as well as the gallery pool where even more TGP2s picked up my work. About 6 months after being attracted to TGP2 I noticed that traffic was drying up at an alarming rate and I decided to concentrate on other ways of selling memberships.

I stayed out of TGP2 until I noticed an interesting thing one day recently while checking some sponsor stats. I noticed that I had a couple of sales sitting on sponsors for sites that I had not promoted in quite some time. When I checked the referrer links I found that the sales had come from some old TGP2 galleries that were still getting small amounts of traffic.

Several days later there were three more sales and the referrer stats pointed straight back to other old TGP2 galleries. That got me interested again. I had known that through the period I had stayed away from TGP2, the gallery pool had continued to operate. I built a couple of five image galleries using no-cost sponsor content and tossed them into the pool. Two sales later and I was sure that TGP2 was not dead.

It's heart may not be beating as strongly as it was when I was submitting to those 150 odd sites but there is still a pulse, traffic is still moving through the TGP2 lists and sales can still be made.

A while back I talked about working smarter, not harder and how I could make one set of pics last through an AVS site, a free site and a TGP gallery. Well now I want you to add TGP2 to that list.

A TGP2 gallery is simple to make and it is just a matter of removing 5 thumbs from a free site gallery page and linking the remaining thumbs to html pages that contains the pic corresponding to the thumb. You can even have advertising on the TGP2 html pages. While some webmasters use banners on these pages I prefer to use text because it is there in front of the surfer long before the large picture has loaded.

When the gallery is completed, submit it to the TGP2 gallery pool and it's done. You are not going to get huge numbers of hits to your gallery because there just isn't that much traffic in the TGP2 loop, but you will get enough to make sales and for the amount of time it takes to build a TGP2 gallery even one sale will more than pay for the time that was put into construction.

TGP2 is still alive and kicking despite what some people say and that means that it is one more way of making money in this industry.

The following link will take you to the official TGP2 gallery pool. While you are there, you can read up on the TGP2 rules as well as submit your first small galleries.
