    Lesson #05

    Dialers

    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | Updated: APR.13.2008
A dialer is a program that creates a dial up connection to the Internet. Your local ISP uses this same kind of software to set up your dialup account. A dialer tells the modem which number(s) to call in order to connect to a particular server.

When you connect via dialer through your ISP the call is local and there isn't a special per minute charge. Your phone company doesn't make you pay extra because you're on the phone/online for hours.

The dialers we will discuss in this lesson make money by charging per minute. The numbers the sponsor dialers call connect to special servers and the user pays the cost of connection through his/her phone bill. Compare the process to 1-900 phone lines but instead of calling operators, the user's modem is calling a server.

Adult sponsors usually offer a few different ways to sell their products. They refer to these different methods as programs. Some will offer a Pay Per Signup (PPS) program where the webmaster is paid for every membership sold. There's the Partnership program where the affiliate continues to make money each time their surfer renews a sponsor membership. Another program choice for the affiliate webmaster is to sell dialers via your sponsor.

    Why Sell Dialers?

Many is the US will find this hard to believe but there are heavily populated countries where the majority of the people never use credit cards. While it's true that credit cards are the most popular method for purchasing Internet porn, that doesn't mean cc's are the only way to pay. All the nations of the planet have phone service and a dialer is seen as a convenient way to buy access to a paysite.

In addition, quite a few people would rather not use a credit card to pay for anything online. Either they have a fear of identity theft or they simply do not posses a cc. These folks are more open to the concept of dialer access. You can use that as a selling point in your marketing efforts. There is a market for dialer programs if you target the right audience.

    Aren't Dialers Bad?

When dialers first came out as an affiliate program option there was a lot of abuse on the parts of both webmasters and program owners. Some dialer sponsors would make dialer software that dialer up numbers in countries far away from the consumer, thus exacting enormous fees. Affiliates would auto-install the dialers onto the computers of unsuspecting surfers. It wasn't right but our industry corrected itself and outlawed this kind of sneaky scamming.

    How do I Sell Dialers?

As with any affiliate program, your sponsor should offer you marketing tools, content and tips on how to promote their particular service to a dialer audience. They will also instruct you as to what is not allowed on their Terms Of Service (TOS) page. Please read all the information your sponsor gives you because they know better than anyone what converts.

Also suggested earlier in this lesson, think of your audience. Do you have a lot of unproductive foreign traffic? Maybe the reason that traffic is lacking is because those surfers don't live in cc-centric countries. Maybe they would be happy to buy your sponsor's service if only they had an easy method of paying for it.

As well, you can improve your reach by appealing to those that can't or won't use a credit card online. An example would be the husband who doesn't want to use the family credit card to buy dirty, nasty porn. Another would be the user that's been burned by credit card fraud or simply would rather pay through their phone bill.

Selling dialers isn't for every webmaster. Dialers are an option to offer so that you may expand your potential. Done intelligently and with purpose you can let dialers make the most of the World Wide Web.
