    Convention Myths

    By Titmowse | Writer @ CozyFrog | Updated: APR.14.2008
The Shriners are a fine organization known for selflessly helping children with disabilities. They also have a reputation for drunken revelry. Whether or not it’s true, the Shriners will probably always be thought of as the guys who go to conventions in order to cause mayhem, sleep with hookers and get smashed. The joke about the drunken Shriner is an old one and no matter how generous or moral they become, the stigma remains.

People who work in adult entertainment have their own problems with prejudice. We’re assumed by many to be morally bankrupt, in league with organized crime and (thanks to the media) the demarcation between legitimate porn and child porn is virtually non-existent.

Since adult webmasters primarily deal with each other in a virtual setting, when we go to conventions or events we go with pre-determined expectations. We expect we’ll see naked models. We expect that deals will be made. We expect to have fun. We see evidence of great debauchery and orgiastic behavior in photos posted by convention veterans. Because of the stories told by those who’ve gone, many adult convention virgins have pre-conceived notions that are misguided. To help you who are new to adult webmaster gatherings and events we at Cozy Academy have compiled a small list of convention Myths.

Adult Conventions Are Just a Party

Adult conventions, events and gatherings have fun to offer but not everyone at them is necessarily there to party. Exhibitors and sponsors of adult conventions work extremely hard and invest huge amounts of money for these occasions. These events are serious business to them and they aren’t in it just for the fun. Webmaster events like Internext and Cybernet EXPO also feature lengthy and informative conferences relating to our profession. From intimate groupings to paneled seminars, sponsors go to great pains to educate adult webmasters on issues and trends. They hold seminars on traffic management, video-streaming technology, optimization of TGPs and important legal concerns. For all the boasting of the great parties, models and strips bars a lot of adult webmasters go to events to learn and show sponsors work diligently to provide them with knowledge.

Women Aren't Safe at Adult Conventions

Female webmasters view the pictures that convention attendees post on the net and see boobs being grabbed and crotches exposed in upskirt photos. Many have express the fear that if they go to an adult webmaster convention they’ll be treated like a piece of meat. The fact is that women at adult webmaster conventions are as safe as they would be in any other public setting. The girls we see in photos with their legs in the air and their asses getting spanked are content models. They expose themselves at shows because that’s their job. Any other females who flash tit or join in on sexy photo sessions do so of their own free will. A woman who goes to an adult webmaster convention is entirely in control of her body. The sponsor’s of these events want everyone who attends to feel safe and comfortable. Female webmasters/adult Internet professionals are respected and treated with dignity at conventions.

Newbies Don't Belong at Adult Conventions

Quite the opposite is true. Your immediate counterparts might consider you to be competition but adult sponsors, hosts and content providers want your business. They know that today’s newbies will grow into tomorrow’s moguls and they are more than happy to talk with you and help you. Your willingness to attend an adult convention reflects well on you no matter what. Anybody can schmooze on a message board. Attending an adult webmaster event is evidence of your determination. You’ll encounter the occasional elitist snob at such gatherings but the majority of fellow conventioneers are glad to see you and will remember you better because they met you face to face.

Adult webmaster conventions are more than just an excuse for perverts to drink, gamble and see naked models. Real business is done. Networking goes on. Partnerships are formed. Don’t let myths deter you from attending.
